CHECKLIST WHEN CHOOSING A CHILD CARE PROVIDER

Some things to look for when choosing a program are:

  • What is the child/staff ratio of the facility?
  • Does the staff appear caring, reliable and nurturing toward the children in their care?
  • Does the facility project a healthy, safe environment ..both inside and outside?
  • Am I, as a parent, encouraged to become involved with all facets of this facility and staff?
  • Are drop-in, 'anytime' visits available and encouraged?
  • Will my child's time here be happy and enjoyable?  Will it be educational?  Developmentally appropriate?
  • Is the provider licensed or otherwise accredited or certified?
  • Is transportation available?
  • Are the days and hours what I am looking for?
  • What are the fees?  What do they include?  Is it affordable to me?  Can I get help paying for the care?
  • Are lunches, snacks provided or do I provide them?
  • Does the facility provide a large variety of books, puzzles, toys and other learning materials?  Does it provide gross motor equipment that will help contribute to my child's growth and development?
  • BOTTOM LINE - Do I feel good leaving my child in this facility's care?

There are many brochures and other resources available to help you in choosing the right provider and program to meet your particular child's needs.  The more time and effort you put into collecting information, the more informed choice you are able to make regarding a provider and program.  Please contact the Child Care Information Services of Schuylkill County to help you in this important decision.

Child Care Providers are selected using information that you, the parent, provide about your childcare needs.  CCIS makes every effort to provide you with accurate information, reported by the Child Care Providers themselves.  This information is not a recommendation.  It is your responsibility to choose a provider after careful consideration of specific rates, services and environment to meet your child's needs.
